Summer Blues

Wow it was hot today, well mostly humid, typical Texas summer. I'm thankful that we got a little rain this evening though. I know my plants looked happy when I got home! I live in a small townhouse so most of my gardening is done in containers. I love container gardening, it is fun to find all kinds of useful items to stick plants in. Once I had a pair of old boots that were past their prime but they were unusual and I didn't want to throw them away. So I stuck some little annuals in them! It was a fun and whimsical way to recycle some old shoes! Of course, being from Texas I have to have some clay pots with the state outline on them, Every year I replant something different in them. This year my largest pot was home to a Yellow Chello tomato that my daughter planted. Right up until the July heat hit us we were getting handfuls of little yellow tomatoes almost every night. They were just like candy. She also planted a Lilac pepper with high hopes but so far we have only gotten one pepper from it. Lots of blooms but they keep falling off, so disappointing. I planted a bowl of herbs for my sister, she came to live with me for a bit this summer. Let me tell you it has been a real treat to live with a chef! I have forgotten how to cook, I think. At least that is what I tell her!

The Tree Gal

Hi, I'm Vicky. I have spent the better part of 10 years learning about trees, how to care for them, the best (and worst) to plant, and generally becoming what some would call a tree doctor. I am an Urban Forester, an Arborist. I look forward to sharing some of my thoughts with you here... and probably many of my challenges too.
